Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has handed a symbolic axe to Mt Kenya Region elders, signalling an end to his campaign for the political splitting of Mt Kenya into East and West.
The gesture came as thousands of elders gathered in Kiambu, where they backed efforts to maintain unity across the region and endorsed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as their spokesman.
The axe — which had become a symbol of Ruku’s calls to “split the mountain” — was returned as part of the reconciliation proceedings.
From “I will split the mountain” to “the axe goes back” — a dramatic turn in the Mt Kenya political saga. 🪓
The developments come ahead of the 2027 General Election, as political realignments continue across the region.
