Detectives have arrested a third suspect in connection with a Sh1 million daylight robbery along the Shamakhokho–Serem Road, marking another breakthrough in investigations into the October 19, 2026 incident.
The latest suspect, identified as 36-year-old Sammy Angwegwe, was arrested in an intelligence-led operation in the Esirulo area of Emuhaya, following coordinated efforts by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
How the Robbery Happened
The incident involved a woman who had withdrawn Sh1 million from a bank in Mbale, intending to purchase building materials. Accompanied by a friend, she placed the money in a shopping bag before beginning her journey home.
The two women travelled by matatu before hiring a motorcycle at Shamakhokho stage to proceed to Chemobo Village in Nandi County.
However, their journey was interrupted near Erusui Girls School when a white Toyota Probox intercepted their motorcycle. Four men reportedly emerged from the vehicle, two armed with pistols, and confronted the women.
The assailants allegedly seized the bag containing the Sh1 million, alongside another bag carrying the victim’s personal valuables, before fleeing towards Serem Town.
Third Suspect Arrested
Following the robbery, detectives from DCI Hamisi launched investigations and an intensive manhunt for those responsible.
A subsequent intelligence-led operation involving the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Western Region, officers from Embali Police Station in Emuhaya Sub-County and detectives from DCI Hamisi led to Angwegwe’s arrest.
He joins two other suspects already in police custody over the robbery, bringing the total number of arrests to three.
The suspects remain in custody as detectives continue investigations, pursue additional leads and seek to establish whether other individuals were involved.
They are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations progress.
