Harambee Stars players have reportedly resolved not to train ahead of Saturday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Eritrea at Nyayo National Stadium, following a meeting among themselves.
The players, who reported to camp on Tuesday, are said to be demanding a meeting with either President William Ruto or officials from the Ministry of Sports to address a number of welfare and logistical concerns.
Among the issues raised is accommodation. The players reportedly claim they have frequently been housed in substandard hotels during both home and away assignments.
The players have also raised concerns over flight arrangements, alleging that they have at times been booked on cheaper flights with lengthy layovers despite more convenient travel options being available.
Another major issue is the payment of outstanding allowances. The players are reportedly demanding that all pending allowances be settled before they resume training.
The development comes just days before Kenya is scheduled to face Eritrea in the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign, putting pressure on football authorities to address the players’ concerns ahead of the crucial fixture.
Further details on the response from the Football Kenya Federation and the Ministry of Sports are awaited.
