Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has officially ditched the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sakaja made the announcement on Monday, November 2, 2026, during a media briefing at ODM Headquarters, Chungwa House, in Lavington, Nairobi.
The governor's move comes days after he publicly hinted at joining ODM during the October 31 memorial event for the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Jacaranda Grounds, where he asked residents whether he should join ODM, UDA or DCP.
His entry into ODM now raises questions about the party's Nairobi gubernatorial ticket for 2027, with Makadara MP George Aladwa also emerging as a potential contender.
However, ODM leaders have maintained that aspirants seeking party tickets should face competitive primaries rather than receive direct nominations.
Sakaja was elected Nairobi Governor in 2022 on a UDA ticket after defeating Jubilee's Polycarp Igathe.
The 2027 political battle in Nairobi is taking a new twist!
