Manchester City have formally lodged an appeal against an independent commission ruling that found the club guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations over a nine-season period.
The club confirmed that it filed its comprehensive appeal on Thursday, October 1, 2026, challenging the commission’s findings. City maintains that the decision contains clear material errors of law, principle and fact and is therefore unsafe.
Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing throughout the case and reiterated their position that they are innocent of the accusations, stating that they possess substantial evidence in support of their defence.
The independent commission found the club guilty of serious financial-rule breaches covering the 2009/10 to 2017/18 seasons, as well as three of four alleged breaches relating to cooperation with the Premier League’s investigation.
The appeal will be considered by an independent Appeal Board, with the proceedings to remain private and confidential until publication of the outcome is permitted under Premier League rules.
