Mombasa United have been declared the aggregate winners of the promotion/relegation playoff against Kariobangi Sharks and awarded a 2–0 victory following a ruling by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee.
In its decision dated October 9, 2026, the committee found Kariobangi Sharks responsible for the abandonment of the playoff match, paving the way for Mombasa United to secure promotion to the 2026/2027 SportPesa League.
The ruling brings an end to the immediate uncertainty surrounding the promotion battle, confirming Mombasa United’s place in Kenya’s top-flight football league for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, matters relating to the reported violence and misconduct during the abandoned fixture have been referred to the FKF Disciplinary Committee for further action.
Mombasa United will now look ahead to their return to the top flight, while further disciplinary proceedings are expected to determine any additional consequences arising from the incident.
