COVENTRY CITY END 25-YEAR PREMIER LEAGUE WAIT AS TOTTENHAM DROP INTO RELEGATION ZONE

Coventry City finally had a day to remember on Saturday, ending a 25-year wait for a Premier League victory with a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Nottingham Forest.

Jay Dasilva wrote his name into Coventry history by scoring the decisive goal in the 55th minute at the City Ground. The goal was also Coventry's first in the Premier League since their return to the top flight.

The victory brought an end to a difficult start for Frank Lampard's newly promoted side, who had lost their opening four league matches without scoring. Coventry had suffered heavy defeats against Arsenal, Manchester City and Brighton before finally breaking their duck against Forest.

Dasilva's goal came after goalkeeper Carl Rushworth launched a long pass forward. Dasilva controlled the ball before calmly finishing to give Coventry a lead they would ultimately protect until the final whistle.

There was late drama when Nottingham Forest appeared to have equalised through Igor Jesus. However, after a VAR review, referee Jarred Gillett ruled that Jesus had fouled Caleb Yirenkyi in the build-up, and the goal was disallowed. Coventry held on to secure three historic points.

The result also had a major impact at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Before the weekend, Coventry were sitting at the foot of the table. Their victory lifted them to 18th place on three points, while Tottenham Hotspur dropped to 19th following their 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa. Fulham remain 20th with one point.

Tottenham's defeat extended their winless start to five league matches. Spurs have collected just two points from their opening five games, leaving them in the relegation zone at this early stage of the campaign.

For Coventry supporters, however, the focus was firmly on their own historic achievement.

After 25 years away from the Premier League, the Sky Blues finally have a top-flight victory again. For Lampard and his players, the challenge now will be to build on this breakthrough as they continue their fight to establish themselves in the division.

One goal. One win. Twenty-five years of waiting — finally over.
