Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has maintained that the opposition should remain united ahead of the 2027 General Election, accusing President William Ruto of attempting to undermine efforts to build a united opposition front.
Speaking during an engagement with clergy in Boston, Massachusetts, Gachagua claimed that attempts were being made to disrupt the opposition’s efforts to work together and settle on a single candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
«"Huyu Kasongo ameplant moles, kutugawanya, kutusumbua, kutuconfuse our people. But in DCP we have developed an equipment called Kasongometer. We are detecting this fellow five kilometres ahead. Akionekana inaanza kuwaka red," Gachagua said.»
The former Deputy President said the opposition would continue working towards fielding a single candidate to challenge Ruto in the 2027 election.
«"So we are able to detect those fellows way ahead. Tunamwambia hapana hapana. But it is a continuous process. When we expose one, anatuma mwingine, tukingojea anatokea huku chini," he said.»
Gachagua Dismisses Claims of Foreign Voters
Gachagua also dismissed claims that there were plans to bring foreign voters into Kenya, insisting that only registered Kenyan voters would participate in the election.
«"Watu watajiunga kumi kumi wanaulizana, 'Do we know each other?' and they move on to vote. Ugandans will not vote in Kenya. There are no foreigners who will vote in Kenya," he noted.»
Defends Stand on Alcohol Regulation
The DCP leader also maintained his position on regulating alcohol consumption, saying he was prepared to face political consequences over his campaign against excessive drinking.
«"A fellow called me saying, 'Wewe, most of your supporters are not happy. Hii mambo ya masaa wachana nayo. Wewe deal with the killer brews, ile pombe mbaya, lakini hii ya masaa wachana nayo.' Kama hiyo ndiyo itafanya kura ipotee wacha ikae. How do you feel as a president when people are drinking at 7:00 am?" Gachagua said.»
Gachagua arrived in Boston on October 1 as his extended United States tour entered its final phase. His Boston leg is scheduled to run until October 9, with engagements involving Kenyans living and working in Massachusetts.
His latest remarks come as opposition parties continue discussions over cooperation and the possibility of presenting a single presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
