The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has approved the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) name for a period of up to 90 days, giving its promoters time to proceed with the next stages of establishing the proposed political party.
The decision follows a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), which set aside the Registrar’s earlier decision declining to reserve the name and directed the office to reconsider the application.
In a letter dated October 1, 2026, Registrar of Political Parties and CEO J.C. Lorionokou communicated the approval to the applicants’ legal representatives.
The 90-day reservation provides the promoters with time to proceed with the required registration process. However, the reservation of the name does not by itself mean that Linda Mwananchi Movement is a fully registered political party.
The development follows a legal dispute after the ORPP initially declined the application. The Tribunal subsequently found that the refusal lacked legal justification and directed the Registrar to act on the application within seven days.
