Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to drug cartels accused of using proceeds from illicit alcohol and narcotics to finance political violence.
Speaking in Nyeri County, Murkomen said security agencies were closely monitoring individuals and networks suspected of channeling money from the illegal trade into funding goonism and other forms of violence.
The CS said the government had strengthened the Anti-Narcotics Unit as part of intensified efforts to dismantle the illicit trade. He noted that authorities were targeting not only those involved in manufacturing and supplying illegal drugs and alcohol, but also individuals and networks suspected of financing the trade.
Murkomen maintained that security agencies would pursue those facilitating the illegal business and warned that proceeds from narcotics and illicit alcohol would not be allowed to fund activities that threaten peace and security.
