Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has declared his intention to contest for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a TikTok Live session, Mosiria said he is open to facing Embakasi East MP Babu Owino in the race, insisting that his differences with the lawmaker are not simply driven by political rivalry.
Mosiria said he knows Babu Owino personally, having interacted with him during their days at the University of Nairobi and within the Students’ Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU).
He has previously spoken publicly about their university-era rivalry, alleging that he faced intimidation during the contest for student leadership. Mosiria has described those experiences as part of the reason behind his current differences with Owino.
“I don't hate Babu,” Mosiria has maintained, arguing that his position is informed by his personal experiences and his assessment of their past interactions.
Babu Owino has separately confirmed his intention to seek the Nairobi governor’s seat in 2027.
The latest declaration sets the stage for what could become a closely watched political contest in Nairobi ahead of the 2027 General Election.
