The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Lilian Nelima Buluma, a teacher at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School in Bungoma County, over allegations of soliciting bribes from unemployed teachers in exchange for promises of employment by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
According to the EACC, the suspect was arrested on October 12, 2026, following preliminary investigations into complaints that she had allegedly demanded KSh100,000 from each of three unemployed teachers, amounting to KSh300,000.
Investigators indicate that Buluma had allegedly received KSh150,000 through M-Pesa as part of the suspected bribery scheme.
The commission alleges that the teacher claimed to have connections within the TSC and other government offices that could help her facilitate the recruitment of the job seekers.
Following her arrest, the suspect was processed at the EACC Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Police Station as investigations continued.
She could face charges of requesting and receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6 as read with Section 18 of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.
The EACC reiterated its commitment to fighting corruption and promoting integrity in public service.
The allegations come amid continued efforts to combat corruption in public recruitment processes, with job seekers urged to be cautious of individuals demanding money in exchange for promised government employment.
The suspect remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
