A Milimani court has denied bond to 40-year-old Francis Kamau Karanja, who is accused of threatening a magistrate through SMS and WhatsApp messages over a case in which he allegedly had an interest.
Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Thamara ruled that the prosecution had established compelling reasons to keep Karanja in custody. The court heard that the alleged threats had forced the magistrate to leave her residence and stop using her personal vehicle due to security concerns.
According to the prosecution, Karanja allegedly sent the messages on September 28, 2026, accusing the magistrate of bias in a case involving Gabriel Saka and warning her that he knew where she lived.
He was arrested after the magistrate reported the matter at Kibera Police Station, prompting investigations into the alleged threats.
Karanja has pleaded not guilty to the charge. The case is scheduled for a pre-trial mention on October 14, 2026, as the legal proceedings continue.
