BREAKING: EPRA HIKE FUEL PRICES, NAIROBI PETROL NOW RETAILS AT KSH226.96 PER LITRE

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced an increase in fuel prices, with motorists in Nairobi set to pay a maximum of KSh226.96 per litre of super petrol, KSh227.76 for diesel and KSh219.85 for kerosene.

The new prices take effect from October 15 to November 14, 2026, marking another increase in the cost of living for Kenyan households.

EPRA Director-General Edward Mwirigi Kinyua attributed the increases to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted petroleum supply chains and pushed up the cost of importing fuel.

The latest adjustment is expected to put additional pressure on transport fares, food prices and production costs, with businesses and households likely to feel the impact of higher fuel expenses.

Diesel prices are particularly significant because the fuel powers much of the country's freight transport and public service vehicle sector. An increase could raise the cost of moving goods and potentially push up the prices of essential commodities.

Households that depend on kerosene for cooking and lighting are also likely to face additional financial pressure following the latest adjustment.

During the previous pricing cycle, covering September 15 to October 14, Nairobi motorists paid maximum prices of KSh214.03 per litre for super petrol, KSh217.86 for diesel and KSh191.36 for kerosene.

The latest review follows a period in which EPRA maintained existing pump prices despite a reported decline in the cost of importing petrol.

Kenya remains vulnerable to fluctuations in international oil markets because it imports its petroleum requirements in refined form. EPRA conducts monthly reviews to determine maximum retail prices based on import costs and other pricing components.

The latest increase is expected to renew public debate over fuel prices and their impact on the cost of living.

What is your reaction to the latest fuel price increase in Kenya?
